The Scalamobil Wheelchair Stairclimbing System is a powered stair transport for wheelchair designed to transport wheelchair users up and down staircases. The unit is compatible with almost all manual wheelchairs. To connect the unit, the wheelchair is backed into the adapter's wheelguards and secured with a clamping system. A padded headreast assures the passenger's comfort. The unit may be used on virtually any completely dry staircases, cinluding those that are carpeted, made of wood, marble, plastic, metal, etc. The unit will fit on curving staircases or narrow steps (as narrow as 4.5 inches deep), depending on the wheelchair size. The unit can even climb staircases with steps up to 8 inches high. Safety features include fully automatic mechanical security brakes on all wheels and a variable speed control to let the operator set the pace from 7 to 17 steps per minute. Other features include an automatic shutoff to enhance battery life, and an indicator light to give battery status information.
